Foreigners are required to apply for Protected-Area-Permit. PAP for individuals would not be issued. Apply for a PAP with a group of three or more. Also, you need to be accompanied by an accredited guide.

Online: You can apply for Protected-Area-Permit online by visiting the site, and you need to complete the verification process in the Leh DC office.

Offline: Visit Tourist Information Center Office in Leh with your passport and other required documents. The opening hours are 10:00 am to 07:00 pm. It is closed on Sunday and other national holidays.

We recommend you not to apply for these permits yourself for a hassle-free tour. Let us do it for you or engage a local travel agent. These services are free under Leh Ladakh tour packages.

Petrol pump

Refuel your car to a full tank in Leh, before embarking on a trip to the remote areas. You will find refueling pumps at many places in Ladakh but don’t give your hopes on it. It would be best if you fill your tank in main Leh and then start the journey. Also, a few of the local stores at various places sell petrol/diesel. Do not buy petrol or diesel from these local stores unless it’s an emergency, as they are usually adulterated. If you are travelling on a bike under our Ladakh tour packages then you will be instructed about everything before starting your trip.

ATM

A lot of ATM kiosks can be found in main Leh. But in remote places, ATMs are rarely available. So, carry cash with you before starting the trip to a far place from Leh.

SIM, Mobile Signal and Internet Connectivity

As of now, postpaid SIMs of BSNL, Airtel, and Jio are functional in Ladakh for roaming service. The signal for BSNL is better than Airtel and Jio.

Internet speed is good in the main Leh area, but in remote places the signals would be very weak or no signal at all. We highly recommend subscribing to a BSNL post-paid SIM before visiting Ladakh.
